How to Price Used Power Tools

John asks…
What resources are available to someone wanting to price used power tools and equipment for retail sale?
Want to price used tools, power tools, landscaping equipment (commercial mowers, trimmers, etc.) for retail sale. Looking for Blue Books, internet sites, rules-of-thumb (%), etc.
Thanks!

Matt Matty answers:
Go to Ebay. In small blue letters next to the search area it says Advanced Search. Once there there is an option under Search Including, check the box for completed listings. This will give you the actual prices people paid for whatever you are trying to sell. It is a great way to find what the market is bearing for your particular item.

How to Find Lumber for Carving and Other Woodworking Projects
It used to be real easy to find lumber for your wood working projects… That was until the proliferation of big box lumber and home improvement centers descended across the country. This hurt the smaller lumber yards and for the most part, put them out of business. These local lumber yards used to be good sources for some of the less popular wood types.
You’re not going to find Cherry or Mahogany woods at Lowes or Home Depot, but you used to be able to find them at my local lumber yard. That was until those two big guys squeezed them out.
So what’s a guy to do to find those woods again?… Turn to the internet, that’s what!!
I found a great source and put together a special page dedicated to get that lumber into your hands. My sponsor, Rockler has a full line of quality lumber. Not only for carving, but for all sorts of woodworking projects as well.
Give my Project Lumber page a look-see and I’m sure you’ll find something to fit your needs.

Pink Tool Kits

Richard asks…
I have just started as an apprentice fitter machinist and want a full sized pink toolkit. where do i look????
Im in a work shop with 5o guys and they think its no place for a girl and i will make the work shop feminin so just to fan the fire alittle i want a full sized pink tool kit but i can only find pissy lil ones any help would be much appreciated cheers chloe

Matt Matty answers:
You could always buy a toolbox that you like the style of and have it painted pink at a body shop. If you don’t want to spend the money on that just tape everything off with masking tape and paint it yourself. Be sure to scuff the original paint to be sure the new paint will stick. If I were you I would use a “hot” or “flourescent” pink to make it really stand out. Good luck. Hats off to you. My Dad was a Tool and Die Maker himself and have never seen any girl show interest in the trade. When I told him about your question, he just smiled and said “Good for Her!!”. My congrats too with good wishes as well.
btw, I did do some looking and found a couple of pink tool chests/cabinets on Amazon. Maybe these might be a good place to start your search.

Pink Tool Kits

Steven asks…
Do they make pink tool kits for women that are a good brand name?
Looking for a gift for Mother’s Day. Do you have a link to where I could buy it?

Matt Matty answers:
Actually, almost all the major manufacturers now build a line of tools designed just for women. Visit Tools-for-Women to find tools from the makes of Apollo, Fiskars, Black & Decker, and Rockwell – to name a few. Women have come into their own and manufactures have finally tuned in.
