Home Automation Ideas

Thomas asks…
Experience with X10 home automation/cameras?
we bought a whole lot of X10 sensors, cameras, switches etc and can’t get it to work. In ONE room all together it works, the moment you are further aprt nothings works anymore, any ideas?

Matt Matty answers:
Unfortunately, wireless cameras and a good share of wireless home automation devices are still too crude to be of any significant good. I’ve been testing all sorts of wireless security devices for quite a while and they still have a long ways to go. If you want wireless security, your best bet at this time is to go with a known security company like ADT. The DIY approach is still too immature. I have no doubt though that that will change – but not today.

You need a Smart RF Repeater Part # PSXO1 also from X-10. Doubles the range of your wireless devices.

Home Automation Ideas

Maria asks…
Question about ideas on my project for home automation?
Ok so I have this huge project in my final year.We are supposed to come up with an automated product that the general public can use with our limited knowledge of PLC and basic microcontroller programming.I am from a electrical and electronic engineering course in college now.I don’t want to ask for ideas unless I really get desperate so can you guys maybe help me out by showing some products or anything in need of automation for some inspiration?
Thanks alot!
