Finding Mac Compatible Web Hosting

Chris asks…
Web hosting which is Mac compatible?
I am looking to start a website for my graphic design portfolio. What is a good web hosting service that allows me to pick the domain name, is not too expensive, is easy to use, supports lots of images, and is MAC COMPATIBLE. I started with this place homestead which would have been perfect but they do not support macs. Any ideas?

Matt Matty answers:
I can’t imagine why a web host would say they don’t support Macs. That’s impossible.
Personally, I use both GoDaddy and Little Oak. I prefer Little Oak the best because they tout themselves as being the choice for Mac users. They also integrate well with Rapidweaver and iWeb tools. GoDaddy has pretty good pricing but the user interface is horrible. Little Oak interface is much better and their email hosting is much more robust.
Little Oak supports both POP and IMAP email hosting where as GoDaddy only provides a complimentary POP account. If you want IMAP, you have to pay for that service.
The Apple option “MobileMe” – now iCloud, just isn’t worth it. It doesn’t support PHP or MySQL and all the other advanced features you can get from a real web host. The only downside I have with Little Oak is that they don’t provide a means to add FTP users with restricted access. This does not work well for sites hosted on a client’s behalf. For those types of hosting, it’s better to go with GoDaddy. However, if you are only talking about your own personal websites, I think Little Oak is the best choice.
Heres a link to Little Oak Web Hosting. I’d appreciate you using my referral code “ 9hu96nG2Cu ” (without the quotes).

Facts About Mac Compatible Photo Printers

Donna asks…
I want to buy an all in one printer. I like HP but which are the best?
I need one that will print, scan, copy and maybe fax. And that is PC and Mac compatible and will print good photos. Thanks!

Matt Matty answers:
I would advise getting a seperate printer and scanner, and setting up your computer to recieve faxes (you can save to disk and print them out if you want or choose auto-print. Saves you some ink.)
As far as performace/ease of use, this would be the best option, especially for photo printing because you can’t get an all-in-one with the same 6 or 8 color ink system that you can with stand-alone. Also, if one of your components breaks, you’re out of luck, but with seperate items, just replace the item that is broken. Also, I have come into problems with my g/f Windows machine recognizing which part of the unit it’s supposed to be addressing (scanner/printer), but have never tried an all-in-one on my mac.
As far as the money goes, a seperate system costs about the same, if not less, as an all-in-one.
As far as HP goes, they’re okay… I am really diggin’ their sleeker designs, but I have noticed that my g/f pays a lot more for her ink. I have an Epson R220, and although their ink is harder to find, the 6 ink printing system makes my ink last longer and they’re replacement cartridges are less expensive than HP. I would recommend Canon or Epson and say “run away” from Lexmark.

Charles asks…
Views on Brother MFC790 Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax?
I am looking to buy a printer compatible with Mac for the home, not a ton of printing, but I will print photos, reports, things in color, etc.. How does this printer compare to HP Photosmart (like the 4580), and other printer brands?
Also, I would prefer wireless capability.

Matt Matty answers:
I’ve always like HP printers. I’ve owned and used them all but the HP units always stay in my office. The latest printer I’ve fallen in love with is the HP C410a. This is a great all-in-one unit that has a separate tray for photo paper and copies, faxes, and prints beautiful documents. I actually own two of these units – 1 at home and 1 at the office. The ink cartridges could be more affordable but the printer works great and that is what matters the most to me.
An added bonus is that this printer is also Airprint capable. This means it operates wirelessly and can print from the iPhone and iPad hand held devices.

Learning About Mac Compatible All In One Printers

Sandra asks…
cannot get updates for my printer, which is supposed to be compatible with Mac OS X, also…?
…cannot scan to my computer
I have HP Photosmart All-In-One printer, and I have a Mac OS X 10.5 computer which is running Safari

Matt Matty answers:
I do not understand your statement “cannot get updates for my printer”? Be specific so we can troubleshoot.
If you need to update your printer, go to HP’s website and download the latest driver for that printer (whatever model you have). Look on the left side of the page and follow the wizard to find the printer you have.

William asks…
I cannot download the ‘Mac’OS v9 software for my HP Printer all in one. I have a new Dell Windows XPHome
need to know if the Mac software is compatible w/ the Dell WindowsXP E310.

Matt Matty answers:
Mac software works with Mac computers only, you will need to find the driver for windows XP, look at HP’s site, it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Learn More About Mac Compatible All In One Printers

Helen asks…
Mac OS X 10.4 COMPATIBLE printer says “Idle” when it worked fine previously?
We recently just bought a HP Officejet 5610 All in One printer that claimed to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. We have an intel iMac running Mac OS X 10.4.9. The printer had a quick response and printed fine last night but now we are getting an error saying “Idle” in the Apple printer window when we go to print a document to this printer.
The printer is on. The USB connections are tight and secure. The software is installed properly. The drivers are fine. Startting/Stopping and/or Holding/Resuming the job does not help and only goes to an “opening printer connection” error message.
Any help is appreciated…..

Matt Matty answers:
Idle means it didn’t get anything to print: sitting idle.
If it received a job but didn’t print, it would have said something about “print job received” or something like that and flash a paper error.
Sounds like a cabling problem to me.

Learn More About Mac Compatible Wireless Printers

Maria asks…
What type of printer should I get for a Mac Laptop?
I need a printer that’s compatible for a mac laptop. I’m looking for something wireless and it has to be a color printer and a black/white printer. Also, I’m looking for a printer that can make copies. Any suggestions?
Also, if I get a certain printer do I need to buy something else so it can print wirelessly?

Matt Matty answers:
Take a look at either the Epson Artisan or Workforce series – you should be able to find a model among these that will do everything you need it to and suit your budget.
I’ve used epson printers with my mac for years and have found them very reliable, good qualiity and no hassles with them at all.

Learn More About Mac Compatible All In One Printers

Charles asks…
Is my mac compatible with my printer?
It’s an HP photosmart c4280 all-in-one

Matt Matty answers:
As you can download Mac OS X drivers from the following page, I guess you could say that it is compatible with Apple Mac computers.
Happy printing.

Mary asks…
How can i tell if my printer is compatible with a mac?
I have a dell all in one printer that i am using with my pc right now, but i am getting a mac. Is it compatible?

Matt Matty answers:
Unfortunatly it will probably not work well with the mac. Dell does not make Drivers(software that lets the printer work with a specific OS/Computer) for Mac.
Sometimes you can find gimp or user created drivers if you do a Google search for: “printer make model” driver for osx …. I.e. Dell easyprint 2300 driver download osx
you can also try going to dell.com and accesing thier support and driver download section for your printer and see if they have drivers available for mac osx
and as a last resort, and i STRESS last resort, you can try calling Dell and asking if there are compatible drivers or known working drivers

Learn More About Mac Compatible Photo Printers

Mary asks…
I have a Mac and I want to buy a printer that incorporates a scanner and a copier.?
Which are compatible with Mac? I have checked the Mac site but the list of compatible printers is endless. I want a good quality one that is reasonably quick & that doesn’t drink ink! Preferably with several colour cartridges. Also am I right in thinking that a scanner will ‘scan’ non-digital photos & transfer them to my Mac? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Matt Matty answers:
I have the HP C4180 which is a combined inkjet printer and scanner / copier, it will copy a photo to paper on it’s own or scan directly to the computer, also has a number of slots for digital camera memory cards which you can also access directly from the computer, or print photos directly from using the printer.
Runs great on my iMac with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6).
Oh and yes, you can scan anything that will fit on the A4 scan glass, including photographs, text documents (it will do a very good job of translating it to a text document too if you want), pictures, magazine articles… Sometimes you need to spend a bit of time tweaking the colour balance or brightness etc, but all scanners are like that.

Your Questions About Mac Compatible Photo Printers

Paul asks…
Are HP photo printers a good choice for using on macs?
I know HP is popular and good maybe but aren’t there any anti-HP people out there? The hewlettpackard printers are compatible with mac, but does HP really work good on macs? I’m looking to buy a photo printer, I would like any reccommendations.

Matt Matty answers:
Yes, they work great and are my favorite printers but before you buy, check the model numbers and make sure they are compatible with the iPad and iPhone in case you may want to print using these hand held devices – either now or in the future.
Good site that lists those printers can be found here: iPad Compatible Printers | Wireless Apple Tablet Printing

Helen asks…
Dell Photo AIO 964 – Is it Mac Compatible?
just wondering if this printer is Mac compatible
